kayla's story
2011 Carol Dunlap Reiser YWCA College Woman of Achievement Scholarship
"My dream has always been to be a nurse. To cradle tiny babies and make sure that patients are comfortable, nurturing them while they are in care. I loved the idea of this but didn’t realize that nursing is also about giving medication – and computing doses…about giving IV’s and understanding anatomy…about being an expert in the reaction of chemicals on the body and so much more. Until I became a member of the YWCA’s Teen Girls in Technology or TGI Tech, I didn’t understand that science and math were critical to my dream.
I never thought that I would pursue a career in science – because I didn’t have a clear vision of what that even meant. Thanks to my three years in TGI Tech, I know that I can succeed in science and math and that, as I head off to nursing school next fall, I will achieve my dream of being the best nurse I can be. Thank you for honoring me with the College Woman of Achievement award, and thank you for TGI Tech!", says Kaylah.
Kaylah Hogan, a three year participant of Teen Girls in Technology (TGI Tech) was awarded the 2011 Carol Dunlap Reiser YWCA College Woman of Achievement Scholarship. This fall, Kayla will enroll at Albany State University where she willmajor in nursing with a minor in biology.
