How the November 2018 election improved gender parity in the Georgia State Legislature:

  • Nearly 2/3 of all competitive state legislative races on the November 6 ballot had at least one woman candidate running
  • 15 new women won their races and will join the state legislature (2 Senators and 13 Representatives)
  • 6 incumbent women in the House either lost their races or resigned, leaving a net increase of 9 women legislators
  • There now will be 57 women serving in the State House, and 15 women serving in the State Senate, for a total of 72 women legislators
  • The percentage of legislators who are women in the Georgia General Assembly will increase from 27% to 31%!

Our thanks to the women who won, and to all of those who ran, for working to bring our state legislature closer to full representation for women in Georgia.
