Take Action to Protect Medicaid

Take Action to Protect Medicaid for Georgia Women

UPDATE: The US Senate is currently reviewing the Better Care Reconciliation Act and is considering making drastic changes to the Medicaid program.

TAKE ACTION! Now is the time to call Georgia's Senators and let them know that the health of women and children in our state is at stake!Below is our Senators' contact information and a sample message to personalize: Senator Johnny IsaksonDC: 202.224.3643GA: 770.661.0999Contact: http://bit.ly/2pXJ9QJ@SenatorIsakson Senator David Perdue DC: 202.224.3521GA: 404.865.0087Contact: http://bit.ly/2ptENnp@sendavidperdue Sample Message:  Dear Senator ____,As Congress moves forward with review of the Better Care Reconciliation Act, I am contacting you to ask that you work to protect and maintain the structure of our Medicaid program. As you know, Medicaid provides vital healthcare coverage to some of Georgia’s most vulnerable women and children:

  • Approximately half of births in Georgia are covered by Medicaid and over half of Georgia’s children are covered by Medicaid and PeachCare.
  • The majority of Georgia’s adult Medicaid beneficiaries are women, primarily women who are pregnant or have dependent children.
  • Women are more likely to work a low wage or part-time job without health benefits, making Medicaid their only option for health insurance.
  • Medicaid allows low-income women to access essential health services, from prenatal care to life-saving treatment for breast and cervical cancer.
  • The program also allows many low-income elderly and disabled women to access critical nursing home and community-based health care services.

Unfortunately, Georgia currently is the third worse state in the country for both the percentage of women without health insurance and the percentage of low birthweight babies. I am concerned that any cuts in Medicaid funding or coverage would worsen these statistics and harm the women and children of Georgia. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely,[Your name and address] ---
