Academy

DSA is YWCA Greater Atlanta's flagship job skills and workforce readiness program, built entirely around the women in the room: their goals, their starting points, and the futures they are working toward. Cohorts run in flexible formats, typically ranging from 6 to 10 weeks.

Part of YWCA USA's broader network of economic empowerment programs, DSA increases digital fluency, professional confidence, and career readiness for women who face the greatest barriers to economic opportunity. No prior experience required.

| GRADUATE STORIES

Iramae
DSA Graduate · Technical Support, Promoted in Her First Week

Iramae had applied to another workforce program and was turned away. Her cousin brought her to church one Sunday where she spotted a DSA flyer and recognized a woman from the program. She applied that day. What changed was not just technical skill. It was the instructors, the accountability, the sisterhood, and the people who kept reminding her she belonged before she fully believed it herself.

Landed her first technical support role after completing the program and became the first DSA participant to earn a cybersecurity certification. Her journey is still unfolding.
Madelaine and Sigrid
DSA Graduates · Educator and Teacher

Madelaine came to DSA searching for stability, new skills, and a way forward. Her mother Sigrid enrolled alongside her. Together they completed projects, learned new tools, and rebuilt their confidence side by side. "My growth impacts my daughters, my students, my community. When a woman heals, grows, and invests in herself, that change multiplies outward."

Madelaine now teaches 6th grade. Sigrid, named Student of the Session, returned to teach 7th grade math. One program. Two generations.
Maranda
DSA Graduate · Entrepreneur + Lead Teacher, Founder of Meditationize

Maranda's mother sent her a DSA link 24 hours before the deadline. "What do I have to lose?" she thought. Through the program she improved her digital skills, refined her business plan for her meditation company, and connected with a community of women driven to succeed. She went on to win two pitch competitions, including a branding package that helped launch Meditationize.

Now a lead teacher at YWCA's Early Learning Academy, earning a living wage, growing Meditationize, with her daughter in the program alongside her.
Youth initiative

Pretty
Empowered.

An annual flagship event for girls ages 10 to 16 that uses the topics they already connect with as gateways into STEM, leadership, and a vision of their own future.

Pretty Empowered is a YWCA USA initiative launched in partnership with Ulta Beauty and the Ulta Beauty Charitable Foundation. Each year, participating YWCA locations across the country host the event simultaneously, bringing the experience directly to girls in their communities.

YWCA Greater Atlanta has been a proud host site since 2024 and is entering its third year of bringing Pretty Empowered to girls in the Atlanta area. Through hands-on workshops, mentorship from industry professionals, and exploration of wellness, cosmetic science, STEM, and career pathways, participants build confidence, connection, and a stronger vision of what is possible for their futures.
